Corfe is an unspoilt English village dominated
by the ruins of the Norman Castle. The Castle, one of the
most impressive ruins in England is open all year except
Christmas Day and Boxing Day. There is also a Visitor Centre
- opening
hours coincide
with the castle hours. The Model Village, just off the Square
is also well worth a visit.
The Purbeck coastline is designated an "Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty" and in 2001 was awarded
World Heritage status. The beaches of Studland, Lulworth,
Swanage, Kimmeridge and
Durdle
Door
are all within easy reach.
Swanage Steam Railway runs between Norden
(just outside Corfe) and Swanage - ultimately to be reconnected
to the main Weymouth-Waterloo line. A number of events take
place throughout the year, including Santa Specials and "A
Day Out with Thomas".
There are many other attractions and places
of interest all around Purbeck. The world-renowned Monkey
World, Bovington Tank Museum, T.E. Laurence's Cottage, RSPB
reserve and much more. For more information, check out our links page.
